The young bull above (who has yet to be named) was running down a road with a horrible, maggot-infested wound caused by a halter that had cut into his face. He was too distressed to slow down, so two Animal Rahat staffers injected him with a sedative as they rode beside him on a motorcycle.

They had no luck in finding his owner, so after treating his wound and giving him a few days to recover at a local goshala (cow shelter), they transported him to Animal Rahat’s sanctuary. There, he made fast friends with Sagar, the handsome fellow shown below.

Sagar is an elderly bullock who led a life filled with arduous labor until the group persuaded his owner to let him retire. When the man could no longer afford to care for him, the bullock joined the Animal Rahat family and was spared a painful, terrifying death on a slaughterhouse floor.

As you can see, he took an immediate liking to the sanctuary’s grooming posts.
