Animal Rahat founder, Ingrid Newkirk, releases the turtle into the river.
Wishing you well, sweet softshell!

An Indian softshell turtle brought out the softer side of a group of fishers when they accidentally hooked her in the roof of her mouth. Not wanting her to suffer but fearing repercussions for harming a protected species, they tried to remove the hook themselves, failing the task and likely adding to her pain. Their level-headed friend contacted Animal Rahat, and the rescue team whisked the turtle into their office, sedated her, removed the hook, and tended to her wound. After a few days of healing, I had the pleasure of escorting her to the bank of the Krishna River and bidding her a good life as she swiftly paddled away.
