Rescuers are the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel.

It was a miracle that anyone heard the frightened village dog’s cries from 80 feet deep in the earth. And it would take a bigger miracle to get him out. As soon as the call came in, Animal Rahat rescuers grabbed their longest ropes and dashed to the scene. Even though the last 20 or so feet of the dark, narrow well was filled with water, the poor pup had managed to scramble onto a protruding ledge just above it. There was no easy way to reach him, so they did the only thing they could: fastened a rope through a hole in a large rock and lowered a team member into the abyss. It took several minutes to reach the shaking pup and 30 more dangling in the cavern, working to coax him into a net. But once he was secured, the team carefully hoisted them both to the top. Back at the office, vets were astounded to find that the water had prevented any serious injury, so after a rest, some food, another rest, and then a quick “snip” and some healing time, they gave him a ride back to his village.
