Do you have childhood memories of running through a sprinkler on a hot summer day? I’m sure that’s the kind of happy feeling Gunya is experiencing in the photo below. He had never seen a sprinkler before in his life and joyously started using it as both a drinking fountain and a shower—bliss in the hot weather.
Gunya still has his halter on, as he’s a relatively new retiree and it makes handling him easier for now. But in a few weeks, he’ll be totally “naked.”
We can only guess what inspired all these sanctuary residents (above) to break into a gallop all at once—like starlings in a synchronized flight—but you can see how much they enjoy their freedom to run at last.
During the recent scorching heat, the pond has been a favorite hangout for all the residents. Above, a caretaker accompanies some of the rescued horses for a dip.
Tires were brought in for the animals to play with. In the photo below, the caretakers are showing the bullocks how to have fun with their new toys.
