Sharon and Hanmanth are an inseparable pair and couldn’t be happier to spend the rest of their days together sunbathing, grazing on lush green grass, and enjoying regular grooming sessions by the staff at Animal Rahat’s sprawling sanctuary.

Life for this lucky pair wasn’t always joyous or even mildly enjoyable. In fact, it was awful. When Animal Rahat staff found Sharon, she was stranded in the middle of a busy highway—dangerously dehydrated, only inches away from the trucks and buses whizzing past her, and too weak to stand. The rescue team members rushed the young calf to safety and immediately began administering fluids. As soon as she was stable, they gingerly transported her to her new home at the sanctuary.

The abuse that Hanmanth had endured before his rescue was so profound that it left him fearful of humans. Covered with flies and frantically pawing at a harness that had become painfully embedded in his face, he sprinted away when Animal Rahat’s rescue team first approached him. Thankfully, the team members persisted—as they do in every rescue—and administered a sedative once they’d caught up with him. After they carefully cut him free of the harness and cared for his wound, he was soon ready to begin a new chapter of his life at Animal Rahat’s sanctuary.

Today, Sharon’s and Hanmanth’s days of pain and struggle are behind them. It’s a thrill to see the pair enjoying the life of happiness and companionship that they’ve long deserved.
