Imagine your doctor prescribing a hot-iron brand to ease gas pains or using a crushed light bulb to treat an infected eye.

Amazingly, some animal owners believe these and other cruel traditional “remedies” are acceptable treatments when an overworked animal becomes sick or injured.

Ojas’ owner turned to his elderly neighbor for advice after the working donkey came down with a painful case of colic. The suggestion? Plunge a thick needle used to sew burlap bags into his left ear!

Ojas’ owner stabbed his ear with a thick needle in a misguided attempt to treat the miserable donkey’s colic.

Unable to soothe Ojas’ colic, the owner called Animal Rahat for help. When the team’s veterinarian arrived, he immediately removed the needle, confiscated it from the owner, and advised him never again to use ill-advised “remedies” to try to treat the donkey’s illnesses or injuries.

An Animal Rahat veterinarian carefully removes the iron needle from the donkey’s ear.

Ojas was treated for both colic and the wound to his left ear, and he fully recovered within a few days. Should he become sick again, Animal Rahat emphasized to his owner that its services are free of charge and only a phone call away.
