A few weeks ago, Animal Rahat made arrangements to replace approximately 150 more donkeys with tractors at brick kilns. Now, the first group of 60 donkeys rescued from the blistering heat and hard labor of the kilns is roaming the wide pastures of Animal Rahat’s beautiful partner sanctuary in the cool Nilgiri Hills. The donkeys were in really bad shape, with harness marks all over their bodies, and some were very weak. But they received immediate veterinary care and are now formally retired, a huge relief. If you’re imagining that donkey retirement is quiet and solitary, think again. They’re extremely social, and retirement for them is sure to be a nonstop party filled with fun and friends!
