While Animal Rahat has rescued many crocodiles over the years, they have usually been young and small—so dealing with the large fellow pictured below was a new experience for the staff. This crocodile was in danger of being killed by a group of villagers after he had killed a local shepherd. Fortunately, a forest officer called Animal Rahat for help in controlling the crowd and relocating the animal. Our staff immediately arrived on the scene and split into two teams—one to calm and disperse the crowd and the other to set up a cage trap.

Attempts that day to get the crocodile into the cage were unsuccessful, so the team left the trap there and monitored it regularly. In the meantime, they spoke to a forest officer who gave them permission to release the crocodile into a large body of water at a tiger reserve about 60 miles away. Five days later, the crocodile finally entered the trap, allowing the team to transport and release him safely.
