While they may be best known as desert dwellers, camels are among the many animals who cherish shade on hot, sunny days.

That’s why Animal Rahat’s team built this extra-tall shelter to help provide the sanctuary’s camel residents with a shady place where they can relax comfortably.

The rescued and retired camels enjoy their new shelter and even share the shade with some of their fellow sanctuary residents.

Building new structures to protect animals is only a small part of keeping the sanctuary in tip-top shape. Daily maintenance ensures that every structure is the best it can be for the animals and that the complex irrigation system is keeping water troughs full and the sanctuary’s plant life green and growing.

Beyond providing the animals themselves with expert care, the staff is always on the lookout for fences that need mending, water troughs that need cleaning, and grooming and enrichment devices that need refilling or replacing.

Staff members routinely clean the many water troughs and paint them with quicklime to keep the residents' drinking water fresh and clean.

It’s all in a day’s work for the sanctuary’s staff—and it’s all essential to ensuring that the residents have a safe, comfortable, and stimulating home. Just look at all the ways they spend their days relaxing and having fun:
