Meet the newest resident at Animal Rahat’s Sangli sanctuary, Bansi!
This little buffalo calf was wandering through traffic on the streets of Satara, alone, frightened, and with no trace of his mother or owner.
This is the plight of so many buffalo calves in India who are tossed out into the streets by dairy farmers who force buffaloes to produce milk by impregnating them and then have no use for the male babies.
When an Animal Rahat scout learned of the calf’s predicament, he quickly arrived with an Animal Rahat veterinarian to help.
Thankfully, the team found the young buffalo to be in good health and cared for him overnight at the local office before transporting him to his wonderful new home at Animal Rahat’s Sangli sanctuary. After being welcomed with a garland of flowers, the rescued calf—now named Bansi—is beginning a new life, one in which he’ll never be abandoned or alone again.
