Soon after PETA India rescued Anand from slaughter at a meat market, Animal Rahat brought him to his new home at the Sangli sanctuary. Staff quickly removed the peg someone had jabbed through his septum and tended to his maggot-infested wounds to help him—for perhaps the first time in his life—relax. Anand brightened up as he was welcomed with an edible flower garland and delectable jaggery, and staff are looking forward to watching him forge lasting friendships with the other sanctuary residents.
